newman I prefer the plastic. foam rip and you stick to them in the summer and the wooded ones to me doesn't look good in all bathrooms. Plastic has a variety of colors and you don't stick on them in the summer.

Think long-term.. the soft padded kind eventually will wear out, and the seams DO open up on the side, so that when you (or your guest) sits down on it, there will be a noise of air come out of it (kind of like a bodily functional noise); or if you get the wooden seat, after a few years, the wood will crack, could even get some wood splinters in an area of your body that the doctors at the emergency room will be laughing and say.. "here's another wooden toilet seat victim!"; go with the plastic, even though they have those plastic bolts.. (actually MY plastic seat did the same thing, and I was standing on mine when it broke too!! Don't ask why either!!) Now, I just sit very carefully until it gets fixed. LOL!

You live in an apartment right ??? Have the landlord change it out... Their fault for buying such a cheap seat anyway... That's at least what my tenants would say... Therefore, don't get anything better than what was there, it will make the other tenants jealous... Trust me, I've been there too...
My personal choice... The Natural Oak seat, with the METAL bolts...

Newman,

Stay with plastic..it's never failed u before! This latest breakage was due to ur own error in judgement. Plastic..u stick to it, and wood...what if u get a splinter?! Not a good place for a splinter to be! My vote is for the plastic. Stick with what u know!

Norman.....as Steve would tell you, just buy a set of new bumpers to replace the old ones. Not only is this less expensive(cheeper), but Steve believes that toilet seats, after 20 years, becomes classic like an old car. Also there is no break in period.

Wood or Plastic.....

Hey Newman,
Next time, hire a contractor to change your light bulb - it would save you a lot of grief about this big decision that you are now facing...
