Decisions…

Early Sunday morning, as I was getting ready for church, I noticed that a light bulb was no longer working in my bathroom.  As usual, I was running a little late and didn’t have the time to change it. So, I showered in the dark.  Later, after returning from church and running a few errands I remembered that I needed to change the light bulb in the bathroom.  Out of laziness, I didn’t fetch my step ladder and opted stand on the toilet in order to reach the light fixture.  Well, I slipped in the process. I didn’t fall but I did break my toilet seat. The plastic fasteners snapped.  You know, those little plastic bolts? Now my toilet seat will not rest on the commode properly.  It kind of slides out from under you.  Not good right?

So I went to Home Depot to buy a new seat and was blown away with the world of options.  No kidding, I stood there in the aisle for 20 minutes trying to make a decision.  Well, I couldn’t.   So, I hopped back into my truck and drove back home.  I started to weight the pros and cons, and limited my options to three toilet seats.  I have had the hard plastic ones most of my life.  I have also used the foam padded ones, which I remember enjoying.  However, I recall those being uncomfortable during the hot summer months.  The third choice was to go with the natural wood seat.  The last thing I want to do is make a quick decision on such an important home improvement project.  They have a million home improvement shows on TV, but none dedicated to the project at hand.  Which do you prefer?  Plastic, foam, or wooden?  Please leave your helpful comments below or email them to newman@wbee.com.

    Hey Newman,
Next time, hire a contractor to change your light bulb - it would save you a lot of grief about this big decision that you are now facing…

    Go with the plastic…

Norman…..as Steve would tell you, just buy a set of new bumpers to replace the old ones. Not only is this less expensive(cheeper), but Steve believes that toilet seats, after 20 years, becomes classic like an old car. Also there is no break in period.

    Wood or Plastic…..

    Hey Newman.
I say you go with the ones with the duckies on it…its plastic and nice to know your back side is being gently craddled with warm fuzzy duckies ;)

    Newman,

Stay with plastic..it’s never failed u before! This latest breakage was due to ur own error in judgement. Plastic..u stick to it, and wood…what if u get a splinter?! Not a good place for a splinter to be! My vote is for the plastic. Stick with what u know!

You live in an apartment right ??? Have the landlord change it out… Their fault for buying such a cheap seat anyway… That’s at least what my tenants would say… Therefore, don’t get anything better than what was there, it will make the other tenants jealous… Trust me, I’ve been there too…
My personal choice… The Natural Oak seat, with the METAL bolts…

hey newman this is why you need a girl in your life so that she can deside for you but me i like the soft seats because there is only one thing that i need hard and it is not a toilet seat…..lol….have a nice day

Think long-term.. the soft padded kind eventually will wear out, and the seams DO open up on the side, so that when you (or your guest) sits down on it, there will be a noise of air come out of it (kind of like a bodily functional noise); or if you get the wooden seat, after a few years, the wood will crack, could even get some wood splinters in an area of your body that the doctors at the emergency room will be laughing and say.. “here’s another wooden toilet seat victim!”; go with the plastic, even though they have those plastic bolts.. (actually MY plastic seat did the same thing, and I was standing on mine when it broke too!! Don’t ask why either!!) Now, I just sit very carefully until it gets fixed. LOL!

I would go with the plastic.. it seems less germy and more durable in the long term

newman I prefer the plastic. foam rip and you stick to them in the summer and the wooded ones to me doesn’t look good in all bathrooms. Plastic has a variety of colors and you don’t stick on them in the summer.
